Had Smartlipo Done 2 Weeks Ago. It Went Pretty Well.

Worth It
Spent: $7,390 in Columbus, OH

I had smartlipo June 15th done on my inner/outer thighs, love handles, and abdomin. I have to say I was not a bit nervous about this procedure because I had a bunion surgery less then a year ago and I have a high tolerance for pain. I am a single mother of 3 beautiful children ages, 19, 17, and 8. I lived a pretty active life until after my foot surgery ( healing) and returning back to school. For about 4 months I let loose ate whatever I wanted , and slacked on exersicisng. In the past I was in pretty good shape, but had stubborn spots that stayed even with a low fat diet and cardio.

The surgery went pretty much as everyone has posted , and there were a few areas that were not numb and the probing did feel uncomfortable. I had drainage but only for that day, meds knocked me out for the next 24 hours.

Dr. H filled 4 bottles of fat, and informed me that I needed to lose at least ten pounds and the the cellulite would not make much of a difference with the smartlipo. But after the swelling went down so did'nt the cellulite on my outer thighs. The fat that was behind my stomach muscle was not reachable and he wanted me to work on it. This would help with a better appreance as I am going through the healing process. I did bruise for the about 1 1/2 week, and there are areas that still feel warm to touch and hard. I went back to work 2 days later and exersied a 2 days later. I love my results and will post photos next week. I know that this is not a quick fix and over the next few weeks my body will tranform.

My one concern is that I would love to see post from people who have had this prosecudre done about 3/4 years ago and how they maintained this. Being a mother who has limited time , and still is able to keep it maintained. I guess my only advise would be to have patients this does not work over night, be mentally, ready to have a lifestyle change.

(¯`·._.·[ PROCEDURE ]·._.·´¯) JUNE 23,2010 I had my procedure done in Lady Lake,Fl. As soon as i went in one of the nurse took me back to the rooms, i changed into the gown and as soon as Dr.S came in,he came straight to me and marked me up. And before i knew it i was in the operating room. The staff and nurses was very accommodating. I have to say i have a VERY high tolerance for pain and the worst part of the procedure was the NUMBING,i actually got teary eyed. Once the numbing was done it was pretty much a piece of cake, although i have to admit my lower abbs hurt the most. When he was done with my abbs he turned me over and did my flanks and upper back…I DIDNT FEEL A THING. Dr.S took his time and went back and re-did every area 2 more times, he wanted to make sure that he got everything. All in all he removed 2 and a half containers of fat. When i got home i felt very light headed, i had intentions of taking a walk around the block but i just couldnt. I tried eating but i threw up the couple of times i did eat a spoon full of something. I ate strawberries and watermelon and i was able to keep that down.

(¯`·._.·[ DAY 1;MORNING AFTER PROCEDURE ]·._.·´¯) JUNE 24,2010 I was able o sleep through most of the night,i got up 5am to use the bathroom and take some pain meds. Im having a lot of drainage, when im laying down i could actually feel the fatty liquid draining. The pain is manageable,it feels like ive had a really intense work out at the gym. so far my back is looking good,i can actually see my back bones again..haha And also my stomach looks flatter.I am currently wearing 2 compression garments because i want that EXTRA tightness.

(¯`·._.·[ DAY 1/EVENiNG ]·._.·´¯) JUNE 24,2010 Today the pain was very uncomfortable,i am very sore. I have a lot of swelling.I took a shower a warm shower i made sure the water was not too hott, but the shower helped relaxed me a bit. I managed to eat some Special K cereal and lots of fruits today. And i was even able to take an evening walk around the block a few times.Im not really draining anymore.I am still wrapping with the Ace bandage and wearing a compression garment over it,the soild firm tight hold helps a lot with the soreness. well good night everyone, i am going to attempt to get a good night rest =]

(¯`·._.·[ 1 WEEK POST-OP ]·._.·´¯) JUNE 30,2010 So it has officially been 1 week since my procedure, and i am feeling great. I am able to move about and get things done. I was able to cutt the grass in the backyard today and i also was able to run around at my sons birthday party [i was only 3days post op] I took everyones advice and got the Arnica tabs & gel and started using it & its pretty amazing..all of my brusing is gone! looking at my pics from my 1 day post op i look really good,i look bigger now and i feel bloated! but i saw Dr.Serra yesturday for my post-op and feeling my belly and back he said that i am REALLY swollen, and when i finally decided to poke around my belly and sides its really hard and sore..so i will also asume that the reason i look bigger now is because im swollen…Dr.Serra also said that he removed roughly about 2000cc from all of my areas [abbs, flanks, upper back] I am very please with Dr.Serra, i can basically say he is a perfectionist, he loves what he does and he makes sure its done right! my only thing i have an issue with is that in my pre-op letters with instructions it said that directly after the procedure i will be given a compression garment to wear,so when i came out of the operating room i assume that the nurses will give me the garment and help me put it on..boy was i wrong. I was just wrapped in Ace bandages and was sent on my way. when i asked them about the compression garment, they gave me a confused look as if they didnt know what i was talking about. so all i all, when i got home the Ace wraps were SOAKING WET from all of the drainage, my mom had to run out and buy more Ace bandages and padding and also spent big money on girdles garments she brought 3 different types for me.. but all in all i feel better and im back to my every day life and activities. my only problem is the ITCHING! omg i feel like im going crazy when i start to get the "itch" lol ohh and weighed myself today and i now weigh 158lbs, pior to the precedure i weighed 168lbs

September 09, 2010 [3 and a half months post op] So guys I am 3 and a half months post op and i am not happy at all, I feel as if i wasted $6000 just to look like i lost 5 lbs. I am highly upset, because i paid $6000 just to get the same results i would of got if i did a proper diet. And probably I should of took that same money and invested in a personal trainer and i most likely would have had BETTER results with just spending a couple hundred dollers instead of spending $6000 for SMARTLIPO that had no tremendous affect on me. I am even ashame to tell anyone that i had the procedure done, because most cant even tell! I am left with loose skin,i still have heavy fat areas in the places i had the procedure. My stomach is far from small and firm, i have a fold right about my belly button that makes my stomach looks abnormal [i am thinking that is where all the fluid settled] I spent countless amounts of money on compression garments from regular ones sold in department store to the Ardyss Body Magic, and just recently this week i paid over 70$ and brought another garment from Hourglassangel.com. OVERALL I AM NOT HAPPY AND NOT SATISFIED, i invested another $200 and brought Beach Body Insanity Workout Program..[again more money to achieve an eye catching presentable body] I am going to start the workout program today, so whatever results i get from now on out will be from this program.

10/22/2010 5 months post-op

Well i am still VERY unhappy with my results, i went back to my doctor to tell him about how i was feeling. He offered to do a free touch up on ONLY my bra roll/upper back. And not on my tummy, he is now saying that i need a TUMMY TUCK for an additional $6500!!! I am very displeased because if that was the case he should of told me i needed a tummy tuck when i first went to him for the initial consultation and i would of probably invested my money into that and not the "SMARTLIPO" that HE HIMSELF recommended i do, he mentioned nothing about a tummy tuck in our consultation and now 5 months later with already $6000 of my money flushed down the drain he is now telling me i need a tummy tuck. *sighs* words cannot express how frustrated and unhappy I am. I am going to take him up on his offer on the free touch up on my back i am scheduled for next week.

Smart Lipo on Arms, Inner and Outer Thighs — Jury Still out

Not Sure
Spent: $5,700 in Dallas, TX

had smart lipo last night and am really sore today. the pain medication they gave me worked like a charm. the proceedure itself was basically pain free. i don't even remember them injecting me with the numbing fluid. i'm not sure if i was sleeping or so out of it i just don't remember anything. however, i do recall at one point towards the end of the proceedure feeling A LOT of pain and as soon as I said something, they gave me some some medication. other than that, it's all a blur. i was still loopy on the way home and slept most of the night. i did wake up around midnight really sore. overall, they ended up taking 3 lbs out.

overall, the place was good. some of the staff has had the proceedure done before so could personally attest to it.

to stay hydrated i have been drinking a lot of water and have to go to the bathroom a lot. that and getting out of bed are the most painful part of this whole experience so far. i think it is harder on me since i got my arms done to so i really don't have any way of getting up without using my arms or legs. i get to take a shower tonight and have no idea how i am going to manage. i am dreading it. so far i have not had any fluid drainage but i have a feeling that once i take off the initial wrap, it's going to flood! on top of that, i have no idea how i am going to get this body compression garment off, shower, put new bandages on and then get this contraption back on!!! any suggestions on how to deal with this by yourself is welcome.

trying to take it easy today since it's been less than 24 hours. once i hit the three week mark, i will have a better idea of it's success.

SmartLipo of Entire Abs, Flanks, and Bra Line

Worth It
Spent: $5,400 in Leesburg

After months of using this site I went to meet with some doctors in my area. I decided on one pretty close to me because i liked his personality and office. He is also a board certified plastic surgeon with lots od smartliop experience. (He also had good reviews on realself a big plus) I will write a new review after my procedure June 24th, have my preop June 15th. I will take some pictures on my own soon and add them to this review. Just looking for some words of encouragement and tips for best results. I'm a pediatric nurse 23, 5'5'' 130 pounds. My stomach has been the bain of my existence after years of yo-yo dieting and disordered eating I've been trying to get recovered for the last year. In the process of recovering came a good 20 pounds and like always just in the waist. I believe I can truley accept a healthy frame on me if i can just look proportional. I will update along the way thanks for all the ideas and support so far!

After my second child, could not drop fat from ab area. I'd been trying for 4 years – gave up hope.

Updated on Jun 09, 2010:

I had my upper and lower abs, flanks, mid and lower back done. $6500 – 24 months interest free. I am 38 years old, 5'5" and 151 lbs as of the morning of the surgery (6/8/2010). My waist measurement this morning was 37".

During my initial inquiry visit, I met with the doctors and staff and they answered all of my questions. During the weeks leading up to the procedure, I was nervous and made several calls to ask more questions, they were patient and answered them all. On the day of the procedure, I arrived early because I had even more questions (I was VERY nervous and had serious second thoughts) The doctor sat with me privately and answered all my questions AGAIN. He was very sweet. The doctor and staff was great!

The surgery room was setup very nice, The setting wonderful, there was music and a TV – I watched FOX during the most of the procedure, it really helped to take my mind off of thing. The initial fluid to numb me was uncomfortable. It felt like my entire insides was stung by an massive bee hive (best description I can think of). They had a large area to numb, it took about an hour and a half to complete. The doctor started with the lower abs, went to the upper abs, flanks, then the back. Initially, I felt nothing – but when he moved to the back it got uncomfortable. I felt the suction of the fat, and it stung very badly in some areas. The heat of the laser got uncomfortable too. Some spot on the back REALLY hurt. I think some of the fluid started to wear off? I'm not sure, but I keep telling myself "It's gonna be worth it!" Over and over again. The nurse was soooooo sweet – she actually sung to me to sooth me during the uncomfortable parts. She had an AMAZING voice.

The actual procedure took about 2 hours. The doctor said my waist looked amazing. And that he got everything from the abs (My major problem area – I really hope to see big results there). He removed about 700 cc's. He had to get a second cannister to hold the fat during the procedure. They wrapped me very tightly and put on 2 compression garments. They gave me my medicine there and very detailed instructions. The doctor gave me his cell phone number and said to call him ANY TIME with any issues or questions. He even called me an hour later just to check on me.

So far, I have only taken the antibiotics and asprin. I received some oxycodon from him, and will take some at bed time. I am feeling some pain, but with 2 small kids (I'm a divorced Mom) I didn't want to be loopy around them.

I have leaked through out the day, and had to change clothes twice. I changed the outer white compression garment (it didn't feel tight enough) and put an Ardyss Body Magic on top of the leotard type garment they gave me. The doctor said it would be Ok and it REALLY holds me in tightly.

I saw my belly briefly when they were wrapping me – it looked very saggy and funny. I really hopes this works. I am supposed to remove the wrappings and shower in the morning. I have been warned about the passing out, so my sister will be here when I remove my badages. My follow-up appointment is next Tuesday (6/15/2010). I have been drinking water all day to hopefully help with the swelling. I drove myself to the procedure and I did feel a little woozy after the surgery, but after drinking fruit juice, I felt better.

I will update as the days and weeks pass. I will post pictures soon.

Ok, the night after the surgery I had trouble sleeping. My back hurt, ached really (the most painful areas during the procedure). So I tried sleeping on my stomach most of the night. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep and I am back to work today. This morning (6/9/2010) I lay in bed and cut the wrapping off, just in case I passed out. But all was well. So far, I like the result. There is one bruised area on my upper abs, but no where else so far. My belly is flabby, but I don't feel fat, so that is a good sign. I showered and applied ointment to the open areas, most of the draining happened yesterday and overnight. There are still 2 areas dripping (lower abs and one on my lower back). I put panty liners on those areas and re-wrapped myself and put on my garment. I took my antibiotic this morning on an empty stomach as instructed and threw up about 45 minutes later (I think that is why it happened) I'm not in pain this morning, but feel drained from the upset stomach. The doctor called me personally this morning to check on me. He asked how I was feeling and asked how my night went. He stressed the importance of keeping the compression garments tight especially on my abs. He has a great bedside manner!! So far so good!

Thursday 6/10/2010 My puncture holes continued to drain throughout the night. The doctor warned me that I would feel sore 24 to 48 hours after the procedure and he was right! I feel like I've been taking body blows with a boxer LOL. I have been moving slowly and people have asked what was wrong – no one but a couple of people knows about my procedure so I just say that I have been working out pretty hard the past couple of days :-). Last night I packed my compression garment with some extra towels to help flatten my belly more and absorb some of the fluid, then I went to bed early. This morning I still feel sore, it took me a minute to roll out of bed but I feel better than yesterday. I showered and the leaking appears to have stopped. I have a total of 13 puncture holes and I put Polysorbin on each spot and covered them with a bandaid. I also found some bruise cream at the drug store and started applying that to my upper ab bruise yesterday. Even with the swelling and flabby skin, I like it so far. Of course I know it can be weeks before I see true results and to know if the procedure really worked, but I like what I see so far. So, fingers crossed!! I put on a panty girdle, packed it with 3 hand towels in the front to help flatten my skin and abs then I put on my compression garment. I will take pictures in the morning to show my 3 day results.

Friday 6/11/2010 I didn't have to take anything for pain yesterday, and this morning when I woke up there was only a little soreness. After my shower this morning I took some pics to show my 3 day progress. Of course there is still swelling and flabby skin – but I can see the results so far.

Sorry if the pictures are fuzzy. I will give another update and take more pics after my 1 week checkup.

Monday 6/14/2010 I felt really great over the weekend I did some cardio and got more active around the house. I decided to take a break from the compression garment for the day om Sunday. But by last night I was sooooo swollen and tender, I put them back on before going to bed. The compression garments REALLY helps with the swelling. I will probably keep them on day and night until the 2 week mark. My follow-up appointment is in the morning. I can't wait to see what the doctor thinks. I still have lumps, but from what I have read on this forum that is normal and it could be any where from 6 weeks to 3 months to see true results. So I am patient.

Monday June 28, 2010 I am approaching the 3 week mark and I have had ALOT of swelling and hardness in the treated areas. Last week I bought a heated, dual head hand massager – it is sooooooo worth it. I paid $30 at Wal-mart and I give myself a 10 minute massage on the lowest setting at night after my shower. It has really helps to break up the hard areas and makes my skin soft and smooth again. I plan to take more progress pics at the 1 month mark!!

Here are my 1 month progress pictures. I still have some hardness and swelling especially around the belly button area, but I am pleased so far.

September 22, 2010 I am adding photos from my 3 month mark. I had my 3 month check-up last week and he said that there was still work that could be done on the abs. At first he said it could be swelling or scar tissue but at the last appointment he felt the remaining fat. My belly was HUGE, so I was really happy with where I was at 3 months from where I started, but I was thinking the area around the belly button was swelling also. He offered to do a re-touch and I REALLY had to think about it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through that pain and recovery again. But in the end I decided to take him up on the re-touch offer because I didn't want to regret NOT doing it in the end and I felt like I had already spent alot to get the best results possible and the re-touch offer may not be available 6 months from now. So I had my re-touch Monday and I must say that the pain was not as bad as before. He focused on the abs since my flanks and back look great. He removed an additional 600 CC of FAT from my abs and charged me $850 for the re-touch. So far I have not needed anything for pain and am moving around great. I can see a difference already after only a couple of days. I will post re-touch photo's as I progress month to month. But this will be it, what ever the final results are will be the final results. No more LIPO. :-)

Smart Lipo is Painful!

Worth It
Spent: $5,750 in Great Neck, NY

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share my experience. I had my smartlipo done on Thursday, which was 5 days ago. I had my upper arms, stomach, inner and outer thighs done.

I didnt want to spend $850 on general anesthesia so I did it with local. I am begging everyone who is thinking of doing it to please do general anestesia! I have never EVER felt so much pain in my life. I did go to a board certified plastic surgeon. Now I can deal with pain very well (i have 14 tattoes). I was actually begging them to stop. The laser and lipo didnt hurt at all. It was when they pump your body with lidocain (numbing liquid) that was excruciating! First they inject you with this HUGE needle, then they put this giant wand all the way in you and start pumping in the lidocain. I felt every inch of the wand going in! It was about a foot long. And it goes in many times!!! My thighs were the worst! I was actually screaming. Thank god its over!

I shouldve done the procedure in the winter cause you can hide the bruises and the body suit keeps you warm. Its 80 degrees out and i have to wear long sleeves.

I have noticed a huge difference in my arms already but im still swollen. My thighs and stomach I dont know yet because the swelling is slot more in those areas. I couldnt sleep the 1st 2 nights because of the pain. The vicodin the dr gave me, made me throw up so I had to deal with the pain. Peeing was the worst! I couldnt sit on the toilet! Now Im feeling alot better, I can walk normally. Sitting and bending over still hurts. Thank god I stayed home for 5 days to recover.

Also please have someone with you to take care of you after. I was all alone and it was so hard. I couldnt pick anything up if I dropped something and it was so hard getting dressed. I cant wait to see the results! Bikini here I come!
