Smartlipo abds & flanks in the nw

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $5,000
Pain: Uncomfortable
Satisfaction: Very good

Had both my abds & flanks done on 11/21/08. I did a lot of research prior to choosing my provider. I decided to go outside of my state b/c I wanted a plastic surgeon to do the procedure & the only providers in my state using SL over 6 mo where Family practice or OB/GYNs (all who had dings on their medical license) CHECK YOUR PROVIDERS CREDENTIALS WITH YOUR STATE MEDICAL BOARD!!!!
My provider used both regular tumescent lipo then Smart lipo under general anaesthesia. I think the whole procedure took a little over an hour & recovery maybe another hour at the most. I felt some pain initially, but mainly it was discomfort. I was back at work on monday, 11/24. Worst- numbness & bruising over my hips that hasn’t gone away yet. During the day, I felt fine, but I had a horrible time getting comfortable at night & sleep was impossible w/o a sleep medication. I am a week out & am happy with the procedure, but the numbness & bruising is still bad. I will post weekly photos in the future

I updated adding photos
Now 18 days out. Started with low impact exercise 1 week out and ran a slow 5 miles on day 17. My flanks & hips still feel numb with a very uncomfortable sensation when touched. i need to wear a support garment, even at night. Thankfully I found the perfect support at Nordstroms. Bruising is still present. I feel like I look fatter now than I did even 1 week ago. Hopefully it is just swelling.

Smart lipo with vaser on upper/lower abs and sides

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $5,000
Pain: Uncomfortable
Satisfaction: Good

I had smart lipo with vaser done on Friday (11-21-08). I can already see great results. I am not downing this procedure but I’m not happy with the marketing. They make it sound so easy. My questions/concerns are about the recovery. "They" say you can have it done Friday and go to work on Monday. NOT if you have your stomach done (in my opinion).
I am scheduled to have my inner and outer thighs done on Tuesday but I am nervous to go through this again. I am in a LOT of pain and discomfort. So much that as of now I am cancelling my thigh appt. During the procedure it was very, very uncomfortable. There would be the occasional jab like feeling. I could always handle a lot pain but I can’t say that anymore after having this done. It definitely made me rethink what I could handle.
Overall, yes the procedure worked and the Dr was great. Would I recommend the DR- YES? Would I recommend the procedure? I can’t answer that.
Question#1- Does it make a difference in recovery when they do this procedure on a larger person? (if they only did a small area, someone who only had a tiny pouch, would it make a difference?)
Question#2- Can someone write back to me their experience about there inner and outer thigh smart lipo?

Gone in two weeks

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $3,000
Pain: Mild
Satisfaction: Excellent

Those areas that would not firm up even after miles of running, biking and swimming, hours in the gym, are gone. I caught sight of myself in the mirror just in passing yesterday and actually said it out loud – WOW.
The procedure doesn’t hurt, and I was back to normal daily activities the next day, and no restrictions on any kind of exercise after only two weeks.
When I had my flanks done I didn’t even bruise. The abdomen was a different story, I looked like I was wearing purple underwear for about a week.
Two weeks post procedure and I am normal colored and shrinking daily. So very worth it!

Smartlipo all boils down to the provider

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $6,500
Pain: Uncomfortable
Satisfaction: Excellent

I think it all boils down to the provider. I had done extensive research online re: the pro/cons for the SmartLipo.
Did you know that removing the melted fat is optional? Some doctors do not remove the melted fat and expect the body to reabsorb the fat; I can only imagine that would take forever to do.
I had technically three treatments. My first was my upper/lower abdomen, returning for flanks (love handles). I am 5’7, typically weigh from 135-147 and wear a size six. Over the past few months, I noticed my weight creeping up to my highest non pregnant weight of 150; which was perscription related.
Immediately following the first treatment (upper/lower abs), my tummy looked like it did when I was 22 right after the treatment. I did have swelling but could see immediate and very favorable results. I wore a compression garment for seven days. I had some bruising and was very, very, very sore. After the initial treatment, I was certain I would not go through the pain again…within a week, I had scheduled the (third) flank treatment.
Following the upper/lower treatment, I put on a pair of my favorite jeans; size six (which fit perfectly when I am at 134). The last time I had put them on was also the time when I was at 150 pounds and just days prior to the first treatment, knowing they would be uncomfortable at that weight (pre treatment), for the first time in my life, I was growing a “muffin top”. In all honesty, I still had some of that same "muffin top" after the upper/lower treatment but the jeans fit and I looked great. The residual “muffin top” was the convincing factor for scheduling the flank treatment.
I am happy to report that my “muffin top” is completely gone. My favorite size six jeans are now about an inch too big in the waist and I have dropped down to a size four, and alas no muffin top! I did not lose much actual weight on the scale but I have an extremely tight mid section with muscle sculpting showing through just beneath the skin layer on my tummy.
I consider myself to be a pretty “typical” suburban mom of three children, two were c-section and I have also have two very invasive abdominal surgeries (both within 18 months of each other. I don’t know if I like that I have a flat tummy and no muffin top or that my scar looks SO much better; the overall appearance of the scar was worth the money alone. My doctor spent a lot of time melting away the huge amount of scar tissue that was running from my belly button all the way down…, the scar looks so much better as the mass of scar tissue has been removed completely. While I still have a visible line of where the surgeries took place, when they heal completely, I think I will be able to wear a two piece again.
I can’t say enough! I don’t have anything else to go back for, otherwise, I would do more! It is SOOOOO worth the money and the time that it takes to fully recover.
I also want to mention that I have very resilient skin. I did not have stretch marks following pregnancy and never had loose skin. The results were much better than I would have expected them to be. AMAZING!

Smartlipo – thigh touch up

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $3,000
Pain: Mild
Satisfaction: Poor

I had the saddlebag and banana roll procedure performed 4/08.
The banana roll was a success, but my legs looked terribly deformed.  I was aware that a touch-up or two is sometimes required, and I was assured my legs would heal a good deal and if necessary, touch-up would be performed in 3 months to fix it.  Although swollen, I looked great in pants for the first few days and was excited and hopeful that the healing would take its course.
A week later as swelling reduced, the saddlebags began to reappear, and my left leg was prominently larger than my right.
The doctor performed the touch-up procedure in July, which again required additional sculpting down my leg for a smoother, more proportionate appearance. This time I was told the extra effort was attributed to my legs being fibrous.  But the results were once again uneven.  From a frontal view, my right leg is now prominently larger with a slight hump which would be fine if both legs appeared that way… but my left leg appears unproportionately thin and flat, and from the side angle is sunken in.
I called the office this week and the doctor replied via email to tell me the reason I wasn’t contacted for my 2-month follow up appointment was because practice closed, and the subject was dismissed.
I’m at a loss for words. I, like many, was told that I was the "perfect candidate" and "I’m going to look great".. and "not to worry" when my legs did not look right.  I followed every rule to ensure I took the best care of myself and researched the facility and physician, and Smartlipo in general a year prior to coming on board.  I even hung out in the waiting rooms before and after appointments to chat with patients, who were all positive about their experiences.  I also met with 2 other physicians after my first procedure to ensure their outsourced doctor’s work could be fixed.  I initially signed a contract for this procedure through the practice, but when they could not accommodate the scheduling they promised, they outsourced another certified doctor.  The practice filed bankruptcy shortly afterwards and the doctor just filed himself due to "lack of business".
Overall, I do look better in jeans, but wearing shorts or shorter skirts in public is out for now.  It’s not worth the comments when you’re trying to keep your focus positive while figuring out what to do.  My hope is that it’s true about what they say about the miracles of healing and that somehow they will even out more on their own, because with the current economy I’m not in a position to pay another $3000.  If I just had a palm-sized section of fat removed from my right outter thigh with a 2nd touch-up, I could live with the unshapely left side because I’d at least be proportionate until I could afford any necessary repairs.

Smart lipo (tumescent lipo) on my abs! the best thing i’ve ever done!!!

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $6,000
Pain: Mild
Satisfaction: Excellent

I had the Smart Lipo procedure about 2.5 weeks ago (upper and lower abs)… and it was the BEST thing I’ve ever done!
I’m petite and healthy (I’m just over 5 feet tall and weigh about 115 pounds), yet my entire life, I have ALWAYS struggled with extra fat in my stomach! No matter how much I work out, diet, etc… I’ve NEVER been able to have a flat stomach.
Over the past 10 years, I have had several consultations for Liposuction, however I have never been able to bring myself to do it.
I’m so glad I waited, because Smart Lipo is light years ahead of traditional liposuction!!!
First of all, I was AWAKE for the entire procedure (about 2 hours), but my stomach was numb, so I didn’t feel it.
Second of all, a laser was used during the procedure. The dr. made tiny insicions (so little that I didn’t even need one stitch!), and he put a fluid in my stomach, which helped to numb the area. Then he went in with a laser and melted all the fat. Then he sucked out all the fat. Then he went in again with the laser and TIGHTENED my skin!!! (Most women who do traditional Liposuction on their abs also need a tummy tuck). NOT the case with Smart Lipo.
After the treatment, they put an absorbant pad over my stomach (because the fluid will leak a little for the day), and a compression garment to keep me nice and tight. I was wide awake and in good spirits.  Even tho the dr. advised against it, I actually went to dinner with friends immediately following the procedure!
That evening as I fell asleep, I started to feel a little uncomfortable (I think the anesthesia was wearing off), but I slept well.
The next morning, I was very sore! The dr. had given me a prescription for an antibiotic and for a pain killer, but I hadn’t filled them, so I had my sister go fill them for me. I definitely needed the pain killer that day because I didn’t feel good.  I didn’t think I would be able to go to work the next day with the way I was feeling.
However, after taking the pain killer (a generic Vicodin), I fell asleep. I woke up about 5 hours later, ate some soup, took another pain killer, and went back to sleep.
Believe it or not, the next morning I woke up and went to work!! I did not even need a Tylenol that day!! I was still sore, but it wasn’t unbearable sore. It hurt if I tried to bend down too quickly… It was sore as tho I had done 100 crunches/sit-ups.
I wore the garment for 2 weeks. I had very little swelling, and I don’t think I even had any bruising! My results were so instant that my pants were literally falling off of me!! I don’t think I really lost any weight, but I went down SEVERAL pants sizes!!
I’m now coming up to my 3rd week since the procedure, and every day my stomach gets flatter, tighter, thinner, harder! I know that it will be around 4-6 weeks that I will have my best results! I can’t wait.
I have a photo of me getting the procedure (I cut out my head for privacy), but I’ll be happy to post it here. Many people don’t believe that I was awake for the whole thing, so I show this photo. I also have my "before" photos, but I’m waiting to take my "after" photos when I hit the 4-6 weeks time period, and I will post them here as well.
If anyone has any questions for me, please let me know! I’m so excited about this procedure that I want to share my story with EVERYONE!
My only regret is that I didn’t do my love handles too! I wanted to start with just the abs to see how it goes, but now I wish I would’ve just done it all at once! But I will definitely be doing my love handles within the next few months.
During the treatment! Super easy!!!

Smartlipo not worth it

Smart Lipo: Was not worth it
Cost: $14,000
Pain: Uncomfortable
Satisfaction: Fair

Two session a week apart. Initially it looks great. Six months down the road, when the injected meds melt out of your system, you start seeing the lumps left and feel like you need even more treatments. Unfortunately, my doctor did not want to fix any irregularities without charging a fortune. 14k can buy a lot of time at the gym for more permanent results.

Not sure yet if it was worth it.

Smart Lipo: Was worth it
Cost: $7,000
Pain: Uncomfortable
Satisfaction: Fair

Had Smart Lipo on Oct. 27; so today is day 4 after procedure; had my upper & lower abs and inner thighs done. I did it because I have a thyroid condition that has kept me from losing weight and I kept gaining weight in my stomach and inner thighs. I was uncomfortable performing any of the activities I used to enjoy like yoga and various other activities. I was working out 3-5 miles on a treadmill 3-5 times most weeks but that didn’t help my problem areas. I was so uncomfortable so my reasons were more for comfort rather than looking good although I will now enjoy the benefits of both.
Day after the procedure I was very sick because of the pain meds; stopped taking them so day 3 was better. I felt sore, miserable and uncomfortable until yesterday because the garment they had given me was too tight. Now I’m more comfortable with the larger garment I received yesterday. I did not realize that I would ooze out of the pads I had been wrapped with so be aware of using extra padding under you that is waterproof. I could not get out of the garment alone so you will need help from someone on a daily basis for the first week or so. I could not get in and out of our bed that is high off the ground so I needed help with that too. It was difficult to sit down on the toilet so I would advise anyone to get something to help with that for a day or two after the procedure if you are doing the areas I did.
Things to have ahead of time are extra pads (menstrual pads work great), extra body tape or wrap to keep the pads on your body, lots of bottled water within reach and Tylenol. I used arnica montana pellets in addition to the gel supplied by the dr. I also used Pain X (Biogenesis) and after my shower on my body where treated I used essential oil of organic lavender and helichrysum (helps with bruising, burning, etc.). (Please talk to a qualified aromatherapist).
Today I’m feeling better but cannot go back to work yet. It’s difficult for me to bend down or sit for long periods of time and I am still sore when I walk. It’s nice to look down and not see that large belly sticking out. I would only advise someone to do this procedure as a last resort after you have tried everything else (diet and exercise) as it is not an easy procedure and it is expensive. I will update more as time goes on and download photos.
